Barcelona are interested in signing Athletic Club centre-back Íñigo Martínez.
The Spain international’s contract at San Mamés expires in 2023 and talks on a new deal have not advanced, according to Relevo via Onda Vasca.
Mateu Alemany, FC Barcelona’s sporting director and Joan Laporta’s right-hand man, has contacted Athletic president Jon Uriarte to tell him that they are looking at Martínez, that they are going to make him an offer soon, and that it is going to be a significant offer in financial terms.
The player is reportedly looking for an opportunity to leave the Basque club this summer. If he does not renew, he will be able to leave Athletic on a free transfer in 2023.
If the defender leaves Athletic, the La Liga side could turn their attention to Osasuna’s David García.
