La Liga giants Barcelona will be force to make do without the contributions of Frenkie de Jong in the club’s next Copa del Rey outing.
As much comes owing to developments in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Barcelona are of course fresh off retaining their Supercopa title on Sunday evening, at the expense of arch rivals Real Madrid.
Owing to goals on the part of Raphinha (2) and Robert Lewandowski, Hansi Flick’s troops emerged on the right side of a 3-2 result.
Late in proceedings, however, Barca were also dealt a blow on the personnel front.
This came after Frenkie de Jong was responsible for a dangerous high challenge on Kylian Mbappé, culminating in a straight red card.
And an insight into the punishment awaiting the Dutchman has since come to the fore online.
The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, who have revealed that:
‘De Jong will not be able to play this Thursday (9pm) in the Copa del Rey round of 16 match that Barça will play against Racing in Santander.’
The former Ajax man will be available this weekend, though, when the reigning Spanish champions make the trip to Real Sociedad.
