The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have forwarded a message to chief transfer target Nico Williams, regarding their plans for next summer’s window.
That’s according to Santi Ovalle of SER, who has confirmed that Barcelona do not intend to wait it out to bring wide-man Williams in from Athletic Club.
It is of course common knowledge at this point that the Camp Nou brass have identified Nico’s signing as their no.1 priority with a view to next season.
The 22-year-old is considered the ideal profile to round out a star-studded frontline under the watch of Hansi Flick, already featuring the talents of both Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski.
Talks, in turn, have long been kicked into gear, between the Blaugrana, and Nico’s entourage.
To date, however, the former have not received a response.
This comes as the Athletic standout continues to mull over the possibility of staying put in Bilbao for another year.
Should Williams ultimately decide on as much, however, he will do so in the knowledge that his chances of joining Barcelona have come, and gone.
As per a report from the aforementioned Santi Ovalle:
‘Barca know that Nico Williams is having doubts, but they have let the player know that they cannot wait for him for next season.’
Instead, should the Catalans receive the definitive ‘no’ from Williams, they will immediately shift attentions towards an all-out assault to bring in Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig.
Further targets will then be put in place for the summer of 2025.
