Barcelona are looking to sign Bayer Leverkusen full-back Alejandro Grimaldo this summer, reports Sky Sports Germany.
The former La Masia graduate left the Catalan giants in 2016 to join Benfica, where he would establish himself as a prominent fixture for the next seven seasons.
His impressive performances led to his transfer to Bayer Leverkusen in 2023.
The Spaniard has become a vital cog in Leverkusen’s resurgence under Xabi Alonso, winning the Bundesliga title and DFB Pokal last year.
Grimaldo’s stellar consistency and scoring numbers have also seen him grow into one of the top-rated wing-backs in Europe.
He has racked up four goals and 12 assists in all competitions this season and is on course to lead the Foals to a runner-up finish in the Bundesliga.
Barca sporting director Deco has earmarked Grimaldo as a top target for the summer, having monitored his progress for a long time.
With a contract running until 2027, Leverkusen value Grimaldo between €30-€40 million.
The 29-year-old has made no secret of his desire to return to Barca. It will hand the Catalan giants a significant advantage in their pursuit.
Alejandro Balde has flourished under manager Hansi Flick this season, growing in stature as one of the best left-backs in the world.
The 21-year-old’s outstanding performances have played a key role in Barca’s quest for a treble.
Even during Baldes’s absence through injury, his back-up Gerard Martin has showcased his quality by putting in a good performance in the victory against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey finals.
Balde is currently working hard to be fit for the Champions League semi-final first leg against Inter Milan on Wednesday.

The Catalan giants’ financial woes could once again limit their activity in the transfer market, but splurging €30 million for an experienced star like Balde would be a shrewd move.
