Ousmane Dembélé’s contract renewal situation at Barcelona has not made any progress yet, and now Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are contemplating a drastic withdrawal of their offer.
Dembélé and his agent Moussa Sissoko are yet to respond to Barça’s contract offer. Now, as per reports, Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany and certain members of the board are fed up with the player’s manner of negotiation, and are debating an extreme step of withdrawing their existing contract offer once the current deal expires on June 30. A group of leaders in the board believe that there may not be any substance in the rumours of offers for Dembélé from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, as the two clubs would not be in favour of paying a free agent chip.
Mundo Deportivo suggests that this internal debate among the Barça board members of invalidating the renewal is motivated by concerns of club image and not any economic issue.
Manager Xavi Hernández has voiced his hope for Dembélé to continue, having witnessed a marked improvement in the Frenchman’s form in the second half of the season, as he soared to the top of the La Liga assists chart.
