Barcelona have released a statement on the injury suffered by Spanish midfielder Gavi in Spain’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia on Sunday.
A club statement on Monday read:
“Tests carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus. The player will have surgery in the coming days after which a new medical update will be released.”
The Barça player was forced off after just 26 minutes of Sunday’s game in Valladolid and will now miss the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign.
This season Gavi made 15 appearances for Barcelona. He scored against Villarreal in La Liga and Royal Antwerp in the Champions League as well as registering one assist for the Blaugrana.
Spain had booked their spot at next summer’s Euro 2024 tournament ahead of last night’s game before recording a 3-1 victory, with goals from Robin Le Normand and Ferran Torres, alongside a Georgian own goal.
