Backroom staff now ‘concerned’ over major problems at Goodison Park – GiveMeSport

Everton‘s backroom staff are concerned about the state of Frank Lampard‘s squad, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Toffees manager has welcomed five new players on board this summer, but he’s lost Richarlison, while another of his key players, Anthony Gordon, is being strongly linked with Chelsea.

What’s the latest news involving Everton?

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Lampard would have been hoping to make a strong start in a bid to push towards an improved league position.

But just two games into this campaign, Toffees supporters will be forgiven for already fearing the worst, with Lampard’s side on zero points from their opening two fixtures following defeats to both Chelsea and Aston Villa.

GiveMeSport The Verdict

Lampard will be hoping Everton get their first win against Nottingham Forest today and could hand a full debut to Amadou Onana, while Conor Coady, James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil played at Villa and should do again.

But star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is currently out injured, while Gordon’s future is in serious doubt following intense interest from Chelsea, who’ve already seen a bid rejected for the youngster.

With Everton looking incredibly short of goals heading into the final few weeks of the window, Jones reckons that “panic stations” have already kicked in at Goodison Park.

What did Jones say about Everton?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “They are busy, they’ve got a lot of gaps to fill. I think it’s panic stations to be honest.

I know certain people in the backroom staff are concerned about the state of the squad and two games into the season they’re not looking very good.”

What is Everton’s priority in the remainder of the window?

Despite losing Richarlison, the signings of Tarkowski, Coady and Onana all look like progressive additions on paper for Lampard.

But if Everton want to avoid another relegation battle and perhaps worse, then signing at least one goalscorer has to be their top priority.

Currently, they have a 32-year-old Salomon Rondon, who’s scored just one in the league since he arrived last summer, and Gordon, who found the net just four times himself, as their only central options.

Calvert-Lewin should return next month but after missing much of last season through injury, he’s clearly not someone who Lampard can rely on, which means he simply has to bring in reinforcements before the window closes.

Che Adams, Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins have all been linked and would all improve Lampard’s options at the top end of the pitch.
