Axel Disasi to West Ham Deal on Deadline Day ‘Complicated’

West Ham United’s hopes of signing Chelsea defender Axel Disasi on deadline day appear to be fading, according to Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian.

The Hammers have been keen on strengthening Nuno Espirito Santo’s defence amid a relegation battle, which sees them six points from safety. Disasi has been frozen out of the Blues’ first team and hasn’t made a single appearance for the senior side this season.

Disasi fell down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge under Enzo Maresca, and there’s no sign his replacement, Liam Rosenior, is looking to bring him back into the fold. The Frenchman is tied to the west Londoners until the summer of 202,9 but could be on the move before the January transfer window shuts at 7 PM GMT.

West Ham’s Move For Chelsea’ Disasi ‘Complicated’

A medical had been scheduled for Disasi ahead of a potential move to West Ham but the latest development suggests a deal is at risk of collapsing. Steinberg wrote on his X account: ““Complicated” is the way this deal was described in last half hour.”

Disasi will be eager for more game time after struggling to convince Maresca and Rosenior at Chelsea. He was a regular under Mauricio Pochettino and has made 61 appearances for the Blues.

The French defender joined the west Londoners from AS Monaco for £38.5m in the summer of 2023. He has earned five caps for France’s national team but his Stamford Bridge woes have been a massive issue.

West Ham may be eyeing Disasi due to his versatility as he is able to play at right-back as well as in central defence. His physicality and aerial prowess are traits that Espirito Santo often likes from his defenders and this type of profile helped him during his Nottingham Forest reign.

The Hammers have been vulnerable defensively this season and have conceded 48 goals, which is the worst record of any team in the Premier League. This has been a key reason they find themselves at risk of dropping out of the top flight for the first time since 2012.
