Taiwo Awoniyi will return to England, with Union Berlin confirming that the striker has signed for Nottingham Forest.

Union Berlin have announced the departure of Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi.

The former Liverpool striker will join newly-promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis.

“I received a huge amount of confidence here right from the start and felt really comfortable,” stated Awoniyi, looking back on his time at Union.

“I had the opportunity to develop here and to celebrate great achievements thanks to my team-mates and the coaching staff. Union will always have a special place in my heart and I’m very proud to have been part of this club.”

Union Berlin director of professional football Oliver Ruhnert commented:

“It was clear that a player like Taiwo will attract the attention of other clubs with his performances. From a sporting and personal point of view, he is a great loss for our team, which must now be absorbed. We wish Taiwo all the best for the future and thank him for his achievements in the shirt of 1. FC Union Berlin.”

Awoniyi netted 25 times in 65 games for Union.
