Augsburg organize third loan out for Günther

A third successive loan-out for German youth international Lasse Günther of FC Augsburg was confirmed on Saturday afternoon.

The deal sending the 21-year-old to Karlsruhe contains both a purchase and buy-back option.

Once touted as a “Robin-esque” winger, 21-year-old FC Augsburg property Lasse Günther has yet to progress beyond his five top flight appearances for the FCA during the 2021/22 campaign. Augsburg have twice loaned out the former Bayern academy man since signing him on a free in the summer of 2021. After spending the 2022/23 season on loan at SSV Jahn Regensburg and last year with SV Wehen Wiesbaden, the Munich-native is now headed to Karlsruhe.

Günther has had the misfortune of playing for 2. Bundesliga sides that were both relegated in his respective loan stints. He’s scored once in 38 total appearances in the German second division. The inherent talent of the left flanker nevertheless remains apparent; at least to the Fächerstädter. Karlsruhe have secured a purchase option as part of the deal. Augsburg retained a buyback option. Günther remains under contract in Augsburg through 2026.

“We hope he will give us even more flexibility and quality on the left flank, where he can play in several positions,” KSC licensing director Sebastian Freis noted in a statement, “It was important to us that we found a good solution for this season with the loan together with Augsburg and that we also have the opportunity to tie the player to us long-term if we are successful.”

“I’m extremely happy to be at KSC,” the player himself added, “Super club, super fans, super team. I want to build on Karlsruhe’s last season together with everyone. With my style of play, I always want to speed things up on the wing, deliver crosses and force finishes.”
