Augsburg boss speaks out on Pepi situation

Augsburg boss Stefan Reuter insists no decision has been made on the future of on-loan striker Ricardo Pepi, who recently said he doesn’t want to return to the WWK-Arena.

Ricardo Pepi and his agent recently ruled out a return to his parent club Augsburg when the striker’s loan spell with Dutch side Groningen expires at the end of the season.

However, Augsburg’s managing director of sport Stefan Reuter insists that no final decision has been made on the 20-year-old’s future.

“Ricardo has a long-term contract with us. With his qualities, he fits in very well with our style of play. The coach also thinks highly of him. Of course I understand what his agent has said,” Reuter told Sky Germany.

“But the facts are clear and there have been no inquiries, let alone offers, for him so far. So a sale is not an issue for us at the moment.

“As always, we would consider concrete and adequate offers. But we will discuss that directly with him and the agent, not through the public,” Reuter emphasized.

PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord, among others, are said to be interested in the US international.
