A key member of the midfield ranks at Atlético Madrid will be unavailable for selection in the club’s next La Liga outing.
This comes owing to developments in Atléti’s meeting with Villarreal on Monday night.
Diego Simeone’s troops are fresh off a return to winning ways, thanking goals on the part of Axel Witsel and substitute Saúl Ñíguez for an eventual 2-1 triumph at La Cerámica.
En route to as much, however, Pablo Barrios picked up his 5th yellow card of the campaign in Spain’s top-flight.
As much means that the youngster, afforded his latest start against Villarreal, is in line to sit out Atlético’s meeting with Girona on April 13th through suspension.
Speaking to Movistar, as cited by Diario Sport, post-match, Barrios did reveal his hope that the yellow will ultimately be overturned upon appeal.
The Spaniard, for his part, is of the opinion that the challenge in question, on Yerson Mosquera just past the hour mark, ‘wasn’t even a foul’:
“Let’s see if there’s any luck and they can take it away from me. I already mentioned to the referee that for me it wasn’t even a foul. When they substituted me, they told me the same thing. We all make mistakes.”
