Atlético Madrid summer signing could be handed debut vs Valencia

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid could be afforded his debut for the club this weekend.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Clément Lenglet as the player in question.

Stopper Lenglet, of course, opted to link up with Diego Simeone’s Atléti this summer, in the knowledge that his chances with parent club Barcelona for the season ahead were heavily limited.

The Frenchman has since been forced to watch on from the sidelines, patiently awaiting his first appearance in the colours of the Rojiblancos.

And precisely as much could seemingly be forthcoming this weekend.

Atlético are currently in the midst of preparations for a post-international break return to action against Valencia, on Sunday night.

And, as per the aforementioned MD:

‘Lenglet has been chosen in several of the exercises in recent days, by Diego Simeone, as an option for the left-footed central position.’

The understanding is that as much comes with a view to Lenglet, potentially, joining Robin Le Normand and José María Giménez at the heart of defence versus Valencia.
