After a slow start to life at Real Madrid, Arda Guler has really found form in the last couple of months. Following another two goals against Villarreal on Sunday, the Turkish playmaker has now found the back of the net four times in the last three matches. He’s certainly enjoy life at Los Blancos, but his situation could have been so much difficult.
That’s because Atletico Madrid came close to signing him back in 2022, when he was still at Fenerbahce. As per Cadena SER (via MD), club officials visited Guler on multiple occasions to organise a deal which would have been worth approximately €5m, but ultimately, it was called off due to concerns over paying that much for the then-16-year-old.

That was certainly a missed opportunity for Atletico Madrid, and it’s one that Real Madrid cannot help but smile about, as they were the ones to benefit from their city rivals’ decision.
