La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have early this week beaten out the competition to strike a deal for a new midfield signing.
The player all set to take his talents to Spain’s capital? Rodrigo Mendoza.
Youngster Mendoza has for his part taken his place centre stage in the transfer chatter across Spain for several months now.
This comes with his stellar performances in the engine room of newly-promoted Elche having sparked widespread interest in the 20-year-old’s signature.
Chief amongst those interested were La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid, and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
As alluded to above, though, on Monday, another of the continent’s leading clubs have won the race to bring Mendoza in.
As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Atlético Madrid verbally agree deal to sign Rodrigo Mendoza from Elche, here we go! €16m plus add-ons as package for the Spanish midfielder who has accepted the proposal.’
