Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Daichi Kamada is set to leave the German giants this summer when his current deal runs out.
Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krosche recently stated that the club will more likely part ways with the Japanese international in the summer.
Borussia Dortmund appeared to be the next destination after rumours emerged that they had reached an agreement with Kamada over a free transfer this summer.
However, Die Borussen’s talks with Kamada have fallen through, and they are no longer the frontrunners to sign him.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Kamada prefers a move to La Liga, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid keeping tabs on his situation.
Out of the two clubs, Atletico are hot on the trail of Kamada, who has been one of the consistent performers for Frankfurt over the last few seasons.
The 26-year-old was instrumental in Frankfurt’s Europa League triumph last season and has been in excellent form this term.
Scoring in three consecutive games in the Champions League group stage, Kamada helped Oliver Glasner’s side reach the round of 16 before getting eliminated by Napoli.
Kamada has bagged 13 goals and five assists in all competitions while playing as a central midfielder, No.10 and on the wings.
The Japanese international was moved from his preferred attacking midfielder role to a deeper role this season but has seamlessly adapted to his new position.
Atletico’s financial struggles suggest they would not target expensive signings in the summer transfer window.
Hence, Kamada will be a great opportunity for Los Rojiblancos to strengthen their midfield at no cost.
Atletico have lacked creativity in the middle of the park for most of the season, with Rodrigo De Paul struggling to live up to the expectations in his debut season.
Kamada will help Colchoneros solve the issue, and moreover, he poses a significant goal threat.
