Athletic Club are set to travel to Rome to face AS Roma on Thursday as they look to kick off their Europa League campaign with a good result away from home.
Ernesto Valverde’s men had their final training session this afternoon before making the trip to Italy, and have received an injury boost in the form of several key players who returned to training with their teammates.
As per Mundo Deportivo, the most important player to return was Spain’s Euro 2024 hero Nico Williams, who missed his side’s weekend fixture against Celta Vigo due to injury.
Left-back Yuri Berchiche also returned after missing the Celta Vigo match, providing options for Ernesto Valverde, and giving him some difficult decisions to make.
Valverde can either risk bringing back some of his injured stars early in the hopes of a better result in Rome, or he can play it safe and leave them behind in Bilbao.
The only certain thing is that Unai Simón and Yeray will be missing out on the trip to Rome, as they remain injured and have not featured in training.
We will have to wait until Wednesday morning to find out who has made the cut for the squad to face AS Roma on Thursday.
