Spanish defender Pau Torres has left the squad ahead of their matches against Denmark and Switzerland, with muscle problems being cited as the reason for his early return to England.
This news comes courtesy of the Spanish national team’s official media, who have said that the move is an attempt to avoid any further injuries.
The muscle discomfort suffered by Torres seems to stem from his side’s match against Liverpool at the weekend where the 27-year-old played all 90 minutes.
Pau Torres has played all 90 minutes of each of his 11 appearances for Aston Villa so far this season, so it is possible that the man from Villarreal is beginning to feel the fatigue of having played so many minutes.
The medical team for the Spain squad clearly think that Torres will not be back to full fitness for either of the two Nations League clashes, but it is unclear whether these muscle problems will affect him for Aston Villa’s upcoming fixtures.
We will have to wait for the defender to arrive back in England before we get a true indication of just how serious Pau Torres’ injury is.
