According to Foot Mercato and L’Équipe, Aston Villa have received an offer of €55 million from Al-Ittihad for Moussa Diaby (25). The Frenchman has been a long-term target for clubs in the Saudi Arabian league with Al-Nassr previously offering Bayer Leverkusen around €40 million for his services.
However, Diaby instead opted to sign with the English club where he experienced an inconsistent debut season for the club. He started the campaign off strongly but began to fade in the second half of the season. Still, Aston Villa had a successful campaign reaching the Europa Conference League semi-final and securing their place in next year’s Champions League by finishing fourth in the league.
It’s not yet known whether Diaby will continue to turn down the Gulf State. However, Al-Ittihad hope that they can convince the player to help turn their back on a poor season where they finished fifth in the league despite significant investments last summer (such as bringing in Karim Benzema (36) and Ngolo Kanté (33)).
