Olsen’s Loan Spell At Villa Park This Season
Olsen managed to serve as a squad player for the West Midlands club this season after finding himself behind Emiliano Martinez in Steven Gerrard’s pecking order. The 32-year-old has conceded three goals in one match for Aston Villa this season in the Premier League.
The Swedish talent has got a wealth of experience under his belt and can still serve as a good rotational keeper at the highest level.
Thus, it makes sense for the Villans to try and make his loan move permanent later this summer.
Should Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard Keep Olsen At Villa Park Beyond This Summer?
Olsen is a solid handler of the ball and doesn’t hesitate to come out of his six-yard box to clear the danger when needed. The 56-time Sweden international has decent reflexes that allow him to make a few good saves at the back.
However, Olsen is not good enough to rival Emiliano Martinez for a regular starting spot at Villa Park. Still, he could serve as a decent back-up to the Argentine custodian at Aston Villa in the coming seasons.
The Swedish sensation has what it takes to fill in as a capable goalkeeper for the Villans in the domestic cup competitions. However, at 32, Olsen won’t be a signing for the long run. Even then, Steven Gerrard would be wise to get him on board permanently when the transfer window reopens later this month.
The Malmo-born talent knows what it takes to win trophies, so he could help the Midlands club challenge for a major trophy or two over the next few years. Hence, Gerrard should think about keeping hold of Olsen beyond this summer as he could still play a key role in his squad in the upcoming campaign.
