In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Arsenal are showing the most interest in Espanyol forward Raul de Tomas. It has been claimed that the Gunners could face competition in the form of Atletico Madrid in the race to land the Spanish talent.
De Tomas’ Impressive Run Of Form At RCDE Stadium
De Tomas has experienced a decent campaign in Spain as he was responsible for scoring a lot of important goals for Espanyol over the past ten months. The 27-year-old banged in 17 goals and grabbed three assists in 36 matches for the Spanish club last season in multiple competitions.
The Spanish talent gave a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 1.1 clearances, 3.1 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 83.9% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).

De Tomas is proficient at creating space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He is a decent finisher on the attacking end of the pitch and can complete some dangerous dribbles up top. The Madrid-born talent can even engineer a few meaningful chances for his teammates in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He hardly gives away the ball cheaply in the opposition half.
De Tomas ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta wants from his forwards. Hence, he will be a good fit for the Spaniard’s style of play at the Emirates Stadium.
At 27, de Tomas is currently playing in his prime, so we can expect him to make an immediate impact at the North London club this summer. He would serve as an ideal replacement for Alexandre Lacazette, who struggled to find consistency in terms of goal-scoring during his Arsenal career.
With all things considered, Arteta should focus on getting de Tomas on board before the end of this summer transfer window as he will be a real asset for them in the coming seasons.
