Arsenal are expected to make another offer for Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukraine winger Mykhaylo Mudryk in a bid to add him to Mikel Arteta’s squad at the Emirates Stadium in January, journalist Paul Brown has told GiveMeSport.
The Gunners are looking at making forward additions ahead of the winter transfer window’s opening next month.
Arsenal transfer news – Mykhaylo Mudryk
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have had their opening offer of a deal worth £53m for Mudryk turned down by Shakhtar, with the club’s vice-director Carlo Nicolini suggesting that the Ukrainian giants are demanding a fee close to the £100m Manchester City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish.
The Donetsk club’s CEO Serhiy Palkin has told the same journalist that he is preparing for another imminent conversation with the north London club about a potential deal for the 21-year-old’s services in the new year.
The eight-time Ukraine winger has not hidden his desire to play in one of Europe’s biggest leagues and told Sport Arena in November that he was wounded by Shakhtar’s £87m valuation of the star.
CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has recently told GiveMeSport that Mudryk, who has been dubbed as “frightening” by journalist Josh Bunting, would find it impossible to say no to a move to Arsenal if one becomes available in January.
And Brown is expecting the club to make an improved offer for the Ukrainian imminently, as the Premier League leaders look to secure his signature.
What has Brown said about Arsenal and Mudryk?
When asked about the Gunners’ pursuit of Mudryk, Brown told GiveMeSport: “I would expect another offer to come in from Arsenal quite shortly. The one problem here is that the two clubs are wildly apart on the valuation.
“I suspect Arsenal know that the player would like to join them and think for that reason they can get him on quite a sweet deal.”
Will Arsenal sign Mudryk?
All signs seem to lead towards a move to the Emirates for Mudryk, who has also attracted interest from several Premier League sides including Newcastle United and Manchester City.
However, an Instagram story from the winger hinted that he desires a move to north London, having posted footage of him watching Arsenal’s 3-1 Boxing Day victory over West Ham United (via Football.London), hinting that Arteta’s side could be his most desired destination.
Having scored ten goals and provided eight assists in 18 appearances for Shakhtar so far this season according to Transfermarkt, Mudryk could provide the goalscoring prowess the Gunners need to sustain their title challenge in the second half of the campaign, something which may make Edu and Arteta step-up their campaign to secure the Ukrainian’s signature.
