Arsenal now need ‘astronomical offer’ for £80m star at the Emirates

Arsenal will only persuade Brighton & Hove Albion to sanction Moises Caicedo’s move to the Emirates Stadium by lodging an ‘astronomical’ bid, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta could strengthen his side’s Premier League title chances by bolstering his squad ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Arsenal transfer news – Moises Caicedo

According to Sky Sports, Brighton remain adamant that Caicedo is not for sale after rejecting a £70million offer put forward by Arsenal.

The report suggests the Seagulls’ stance will not change during the final hours of the January window despite a host of bids coming in for the Ecuador international, who took to social media to confirm he wants to seal his exit.

A £60million Arsenal offer was snubbed last week, while Chelsea also failed to land Caicedo after lodging a £55million proposal.

It is understood that Brighton are demanding £80million for the 21-year-old central midfielder, who is reportedly keen to join the Gunners.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that Caicedo may only get his wish by attempting to force a move out of the Amex Stadium.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Caicedo?

Jacobs understands that Caicedo’s representatives, along with Arsenal, are putting pressure on Brighton to rubber-stamp a deal.

But the respected journalist feels the north Londoners will find it difficult to reach an agreement during the final hours of the transfer window.

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “I think we have to be very clear that clubs are pushing and the agents are pushing, but Brighton’s stance has been very, very clear, which is he is not for sale.

“Only something astronomical, above market value and in the mid-70s is going to even provoke a conversation.

“Even if that conversation happens, with limited time left in the window and because Brighton’s stance remains the same, it will be difficult.”

Who have Arsenal signed so far this month?

Arsenal have already raided Brighton since the January transfer window opened for business, with Sky Sports revealing a £27million proposal was enough to lure Leandro Trossard away from the Amex Stadium.

The Belgium international was desperate to seal his departure after being left ‘humiliated’ by Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi.

Trossard had also entered the final six months of his £60,000-per-week contract before Brighton triggered a one-year extension earlier this month, meaning there was uncertainty over his long-term future.

Having acquired the winger, Arteta then turned his attentions towards bolstering his defensive options and completed the £20million capture of Jakub Kiwior from Spezia.

Sofascore statistics show the 22-year-old averaged 3.3 clearances and one interception per outing for Poland at the World Cup.
