According to L’Équipe, Nicolas Pépé (27) is open to the idea of remaining at OGC Nice beyond the end of his season-long loan from Arsenal.
Pépé is set to make his long-awaited return to the starting lineup for Les Aiglons when they face FC Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday. The Arsenal loanee has been absent since mid-January with a tendinitis issue in his knee, but he made his return on Thursday, coming off the bench during Nice’s UEFA Europa Conference League victory over Sheriff Tiraspol.
The Ivory Coast international will be hoping to make an impact between now and the end of the season. Nice still have a lot to play for, with European qualification for next season, either through winning the Conference League or by finishing fifth or above, a genuine possibility.
However, as well as fighting to achieve Nice’s goals, Pépé may also be fighting for his future. According to L’Équipe, Nice are considering retaining Pépé for next season, but want to see more from the player before making an attempt to retain him for next season. Pépé, who only has one year remaining on his contract at Arsenal, wouldn’t be against staying at Nice beyond the expiry of his season-long loan.
