In a recent report, Il Mattino mentioned that Arsenal have launched a €60m move for Napoli centre-forward Victor Osimhen. It has been stated that the Gunners are showing interest in recruiting the Nigerian striker during this summer transfer period.
Osimhen’s Impressive Numbers In Italian Football
The Lagos-born talent had a decent season at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium after scoring a handful of important goals as the focal point of the Napoli attack. Osimhen netted 18 goals and secured six assists in 32 matches for the Naples outfit in the previous campaign in multiple competitions.
The 23-year-old has led the line well for his current employers based on his average of 3.4 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution as evidenced by his pass success rate of 70.5% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Will Osimhen Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Team?
Osimhen can use his quickness and agility to beat his marker out on the wide areas. He can get himself into some dangerous areas in the final third and is a tidy finisher in front of the opposition goal.
The Nigerian sensation can even set up a few clear-cut chances for his teammates on the attacking end of the pitch. However, as mentioned earlier, he needs to work on improving his link-up play up top.
A striker of Osimhen’s skillset will be a welcome addition to Arsenal‘s squad as he will add a lot of goals and pace to Mikel Arteta‘s attack. At 23, the future is quite bright for the Nigerian forward as long as he continues to take strides towards improving himself with each season. He could also help the North Londo outfit compete for a major trophy or two over the next few years.
Osimhen would even serve as an upgrade over Alexandre Lacazette, as he is comparatively more consistent inside the opponent’s penalty box, at the Emirates Stadium. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football if the Gunners manage to get him on board in this off-season.
