Arsenal Have Concrete Interest in £65m ‘Superstar’

Arsenal have a concrete interest in Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, BBC journalist Sami Mokbel has revealed.

The Gunners have reportedly earmarked the Eagles captain as a potential reinforcement to Mikel Arteta’s frontline, alongside Cristhian Mosquera, who is now in advanced talks to join.

Guehi has no shortage of Premier League suitors with a year left on his contract at Selhurst Park, as Liverpool are believed to be leading the race for his signature at the moment.

The 24-year-old ‘superstar’ defender was heavily linked with a Palace exit in the last two transfer windows, before the South London club rebuffed offers from the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham.

According to Mokbel, while there is no official word on what Palace would be prepared to accept for Guehi this summer, there have been indications that an offer between £40m and £45m could tempt them into a deal.

The Eagles rejected multiple approaches from Newcastle – the last of which was worth £65m – last summer, but they are now in a much weaker negotiating position, as Guehi has entered the final year of his contract.

Arsenal are believed to have made initial enquiries over a move for Guehi, but have since turned their attention to Mosquera, who is also in the final year of his deal with Valencia.

The 21-year-old centre-back is believed to have already agreed personal terms over the Emirates move, with club-to-club talks ongoing over a potential €20m+ (£17m) deal.

Arsenal’s summer business has gathered pace in recent days, with deals for Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa now close to completion.

The Gunners are also expected to bring in reinforcements to Mikel Arteta’s frontline, with a new number nine and winger on the agenda.
