Arsenal would be ‘willing to pay’ Shakhtar Donetsk’s asking price for star winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Several clubs have been credited with an interest in the 21-year-old since the summer, and the Gunners appear to be near the front of the queue for his signature.
What is the latest news involving Mudryk?
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Mudryk, revealed that they had ‘positive’ contact over the summer and that they are ‘still following’ him now.
“We know they [Arsenal] wanted a winger. Raphinha was the dream, but it was not possible to proceed,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“They have had very positive contacts on Mudryk on the player’s side, but then they decided not to proceed with Shakhtar because they wanted more than €40m to €45m.

“Now Shakhtar want more than €60m to €65m,” Romano continued. “But Arsenal are still following the player.”
CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has also claimed that Sevilla, Newcastle United, Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen are in the running for Mudryk, meaning the north London outfit could face stiff competition.
What has Jones said about Mudryk?
Jones believes that the new figure being reported for Mudryk is ‘reasonable’ for players with a ‘high ceiling’ in the modern era and that Arsenal would be happy to spend that kind of money on him.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “I think they would, yeah. And I think they know that they’ve got to.
“So, we think €65 million (£56m) is traditionally a lot of money in football, but it’s actually becoming a reasonable figure in the transfer market for the players with a high ceiling. And I think that that is an amount that Arsenal will be willing to pay.”
Could Arsenal make a move in January?
Mikel Arteta recently admitted that he and his recruitment team will ‘look at everything’ ahead of the January transfer window when it comes to potential reinforcements.
And a long-term injury to Emile Smith Rowe in the first half of the campaign has highlighted the capital club’s need for extra options out wide.
Reiss Nelson has played his way back into the team with some impressive cameo appearances, but he is yet to prove his quality over a sustained period of time.
Therefore, a move for Mudryk, who registered five goal contributions in six Champions League games, could be on the cards in the upcoming January window if the Arsenal hierarchy are prepared to open their chequebook once again.
