Armando Broja signs new long term contract with Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed via the club’s official website that academy graduate Armando Broja has signed a new long-term deal at the club.

The Albanian striker has been on loan spells with Vitesse Arnhem and Southampton since graduating from the Chelsea academy. 

His performances for the Saints drew attention from several Premier League clubs, including West Ham United and Everton.

Thomas Tuchel was adamant about signing a new striker this summer, and it was thought that meant Broja’s future at the club was not secure.

Chelsea signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline day but refused several offers for their young striker, insisting his long-term future lies with the club.

The Blues have now convinced Broja, who turns 21 later this month, to sign a new six-year deal with the club, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2028.

Broja struggled to put his elation into words after signing on the dotted line. “I’m lost for words, just thinking about it.” 

“It’s the club I’ve dreamed of playing for my whole life, the club that I support, and the club that I love. I’ve been here since I was a boy, so it’s a surreal feeling for me and my family.”

“To be able to put on the blue shirt with the first team is a dream come true. It’s amazing every minute that you get to play on the pitch because this is one of the biggest clubs in the world.” 

“There’s always competition, and everyone wants to play so I’m just happy that I have the opportunity to be a part of it. Hopefully, I get to play a lot of matches and be a part of the team’s success.”

With Chelsea competing on all fronts this season, Tuchel will need every firepower available, and Broja’s six goals for Southampton last season is enough proof the German manager can count on him.

He has already tasted Tuchel’s football with 40 minutes of action this season and can now look forward to many more with the club.
