Napoli boss Antonio Conte has revealed that he would put his hand in the fire for new signing Romelu Lukaku, who has joined the club from Chelsea.
It took many weeks for Napoli to complete the signing and talks had gone on for thhe entire summer transfer window. But they have sealed the move, which was made official earlier today.
Lukaku could feature for Napoli at the weekend against Parma and Conte spoke about the Belgian in a chat ahead of the upcoming Serie A clash, revealing his liking for the striker and that he would be in the fray to play at the weekend.
Conte said: “I hope that Romelu can get in tune with the team immediately, we have two training sessions and the finishing touches on Saturday morning. If he has nothing special, he will come with us.
“What can I say? He is certainly an atypical centre forward, usually with that physique they are slow. And instead he has great legs, he is an American football player, powerful and very fast. We need both things, someone who knows how to hold up and keep the ball to exchange it with his more talented teammates, but also who knows how to attack the depth and the spaces.”
The Italian further said: “He’s a good guy, a good person, I’d put my hand in the fire for him. He knows the responsibility he has towards me and towards Napoli and the Neapolitans. But let’s not forget the other two.”
The striker issue has been a problem for Conte so far in the season, who has had to play Jack Raspadori upfront but the suitability has come under question. Giovanni Simeone has also come off the bench to play the role and also scored in the previous game.
