It’s the big one in the Bundesliga today as leaders Bayern Munich host reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Topspiel. It’s Vincent Kompany vs Xabi Alonso, Jamal Musiala vs Florian Wirtz, and Harry Kane vs Victor Boniface in what’s sure to be a cracker.
It takes around four hours on the train from neighbouring Köln to Munich, and 7,500 Bayer Leverkusen fans are expected in the away block at the Allianz Arena with tickets sold out after just one day after they went on sale. It’s the 91st Bundesliga games between the two teams, and it will be broadcasted in over 200 countries.
Alonso’s Leverkusen are also unbeaten in their last three games against today’s opponents. Their previous meeting, a 3-0 win at the BayArena, ultimately secured their maiden Bundesliga title after then Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel conceded defeat in the title race.
Bayer are also unbeaten in their last 19 away games in the league but are coming up against a Bayern Munich side that have a 100 percent record across all competitions this season, and a team that has scored 20 goals in their last three games.
Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry are both in excellent form for Bayern Munich this season, while Alonso is expected to make several changes after last weekend’s 4-3 win against Wolfsburg.
