A 2nd member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this weekend revealed his appreciation for the talents of Virgil van Dijk.
The player in question? Ronald Araújo.
Stopper Araújo, for his part, is of course in the midst of what has been a difficult individual campaign to date.
Owing to a long-term injury to open the term, the Uruguayan now finds himself down the central defensive pecking order of boss Hansi Flick.
Amid ongoing efforts to rediscover his brilliant best, Araújo, in turn, was this weekend drawn on some of his biggest inspirations.
Specifically, during an interview with Diario Sport, the 25-year-old was asked to name the defender whom he most admires across world football at present.
And Araújo went on to respond:
‘Virgil van Dijk’.
Interestingly, this comes fresh off another of Barcelona’s defensive stars, in Pau Cubarsí, recently confirming his appreciation for Liverpool’s stalwart, too:
“I love watching the Premier League and I admire Van Dijk. He has amazing physical strength and defence. He’s also a great leader. I pay a lot of attention to him.”
