Álvaro Morata is one of the Atlético Madrid players whose contract expires in 2024, but the Spain international has been offered a contract extension, according to Relevo.
At the Metropolitano, they are happy with the striker’s attitude, which is said to be more mature than in his previous stint at the club, before he left to join Juventus on loan.
He hasn’t played 90 minutes in La Liga since 30 December, against Elche. The competition for places has increased, with the arrival of Memphis Depay, but Morata has shown that he comes off the bench with the right frame of mind. He also adds a lot to the dressing room and on the pitch, head coach Diego Simeone is also satisfied with his overall contribution.
Morata has been both a starter and a substitute this season and is the top scorer in the squad with 12 goals in all competitions, two more than Antoine Griezmann, who has been one of the best players in Spain in 2022-23. The Spanish forward has also provided three assists in the current campaign.
At the age of 30, and now the captain of the Spain national team, Morata will have to decide whether to accept the renewal proposal or look for a transfer away from Atlético.
At the time of writing, there has been no contact between Morata’s entourage and other clubs, and the only ongoing talks are for a contract renewal with Atlético. Morata is very happy at Atlético and in Madrid.
