Alphonso Davies signs new Bayern Munich deal, ending Real Madrid transfer links

Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies has signed a new deal with the club, keeping him in Bavaria until 2030, according to The Athletic.

Die Rekordmeister tied down Davies for the next four-and-a-half years despite speculation that he would join Real Madrid this summer when his contract expires.

Los Blancos have been talking to Davies’ representatives, trying to hash out a deal for some time, but Bayern refused to bow out from the race.

The Bayern hierarchy moved mountains to get the Canadian international to sign on the dotted line, refusing to make the same mistake they made with Toni Kroos.

Real Madrid’s full-back areas need a revamp. They wanted Davies and Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold to fill the gap but have now been dealt a massive blow in their pursuit of the former.

Bayern secured one of the best in the business and will use this coming transfer window to sharpen their frontline. Bayern lack the cutting edge that made them one of the most feared sides in football, and the focus will be on reinforcing the forward areas.

Leroy Sane has been a disappointment since joining the club, flattering to deceive but never showing the consistency required at a club like Bayern. He is expected to leave Bayern this summer as a free agent.

International teammate Serge Gnabry is also guilty of lacking consistency and could be on the chopping block in the next transfer window after another underwhelming season.

Many expect Bayern and Madrid to battle for Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz this summer.

Bayern Munich legend and executive Uli Hoeneß was asked what he wanted for the club’s 125th anniversary and named the German international maestro. He also claimed that the €150 million-rated forward is a dream for Bayern.

Bayern want him to form part of their new core alongside Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Michael Olise, and Davies.
