According to Florian Plettenberg, Alexander Nübel (26) rejected the offer to make his loan move from Bayern Munich to AS Monaco permanent.
The German journalist reports that there were discussions between Nübel and the Principality clubs months ago, but that they didn’t meet a positive conclusion. Nübel, who is nearing the end of a two-year loan deal at Monaco, rejected Les Monégasuqes’ offer to remain at the club, and will therefore return to Bavaria in the summer. A decision on whether he remains at Bayern Munich will be made upon his return and will be dictated by the future of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Speaking to Get French Football News earlier in the season, Nübel said that it “made no sense” for him to return whilst Neuer was still the number one at the club. However, since that declaration, Neuer’s position at Bayern Munich has come into question with the departure of goalkeeping coach and close friend Toni Tapalovic. Neuer has been vocal in his disapproval of that decision.
Nübel has previously been open to remaining at Monaco previously, but it now seems he has had a change of heart, and will return to his parent club, rather than remain on Le Rocher.
