Alexander Isak at the top of Arsenal transfer list this summer

Arsenal want to sign a striker this summer, and Newcastle United centre-forward Alexander Isak is at the top of their wishlist, according to David Ornstein.

The 25-year-old is one of the most coveted strikers in the game, but Newcastle aren’t willing to let him go to Arsenal or any other suitor.

The Toons are working to tie Isak to a new deal while slapping a £150 million price tag on the former Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund star to deter big clubs eyeing his signature.

Arsenal could use Isak, who has bagged 19 goals in 25 Premier League appearances this term, on course to improve his tally of 21 in 30 last term.

The Sweden international is a lethal finisher who can spearhead Arsenal’s push for a first Premier League title in 21 years. With Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus underwhelming in the centre-forward position for Arsenal, the Newcastle man is a must.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly loves Isak and would love to bring him to North London amid competition from Chelsea. The Blues had eyes on him last summer and could resurrect their interest in his services, as they still need a consistent striker. Arsenal are the frontrunners now.

However, it is hard to envisage Arsenal splashing over £100 million on Isak, especially with Newcastle determined to keep him. His contract runs until 2028, giving the Magpies no pressure to sell.

Instead of chasing an unrealistic target, new sporting director Andrea Berta should focus on finding Arteta a smarter, more attainable alternative.

A proven goal scorer who fits the Arsenal tactical setup without breaking the bank would be a wiser investment.

With several quality strikers available this summer (Liam Delap, Samu Aghehowa, Victor Osimhen, Lois Openda, and Ollie Watkins, etc.), Arsenal must act decisively to strengthen their attack without getting drawn into a fruitless pursuit of a player Newcastle have no intention of selling.
