The agent of Lazio defender Nicolo Casale has slammed accusations surrounding the Italian’s potential involvement in the Serie A betting scandal.
Earlier today, paparazzi Fabrizio Corona had revealed three new names of players that are involved in the betting scandal. Casale was one of the players he named, along with Juventus’ Federico Gatti and Roma winger Stephan El Shaarawy.
It has been reported that the Turin prosecutor has found no evidence of the three players’ involvement in the saga and Casale’s agent has now slammed these accusations.
He released and statement, saying: “Nicolò Casale has never bet on a sporting competition and has always dedicated his life only to sporting commitment. Nonetheless, unfounded and slanderous accusations have been put into circulation regarding his involvement in the investigation regarding betting in world of football.”
The defender’s agent also revealed that they will take legal action against the accusations, as they demean the ex-Verona star’s reputation as a footballer.
He said: “Given his total non-involvement in the investigation and the facts to which it refers and the seriousness of the accusations made against him, we will file a complaint and prosecute in every judicial setting the authors of the defamation and/or slander, as well as the publishers and the managers of the information channels through which such illicit accusations are disclosed. This is to protect his image and his honor.”
The accusations made against Casale are certainly serious, considering that Nicolo Fagioli has already been banned for seven months and Sandro Tonali is also likely to be banned, after having confessed his involvement in the crime. The same could happen for Nicolo Zaniolo. But not all of Corona’s accusations have proved true, with proceedings yet to be opened against Nicola Zalewski.
