AC Milan renew interest in Liverpool defender Joe Gomez

AC Milan are targeting Liverpool defender Joe Gomez as they seek defensive reinforcements, according to Calciomercato.

Milan consider Gomez’s profile ideal due to his ability to play both centre-back and full-back, giving them tactical flexibility across the back line.

Milan previously pushed hard to sign Gomez in the closing stages of the last summer window, but the move eventually fell through, largely because Liverpool could not secure a replacement in time.

However, that disappointment has not cooled Milan’s interest, and the Serie A giants now plan a fresh move to bring Gomez to the San Siro.

They will hope to capitalise on the player’s relatively limited minutes and his desire for a more prominent role, with one eye on England’s 2026 World Cup squad.

Whether Liverpool will open to a sale mid-season remains unclear, especially because Giovanni Leoni’s long-term injury has left the Reds short of depth at centre-back.

Currently second in Serie A just shy of the midway point of the 2025-26 campaign, Milan are in the hunt for league glory and are expected to be active in the ongoing transfer market.

Max Allegri’s side signed Niclas Fullkrug from West Ham United on a six-month loan earlier this month.
