AC Milan have set their sights on Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata ahead of a potential move this summer, according to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Rossoneri are on the lookout for a new No.9 ahead of next season. They want a prolific striker as a long-term successor to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud.
Morata’s name has emerged on the radar of Milan, with the Spaniard in good form for Los Rojiblancos this season.
After ending his loan spell with Juventus last summer, the newly-appointed Spanish captain returned to Wanda Metropoiltano and has grown into a key figure in the attack for Diego Simeone.
Despite not being a regular starter, Morata has chipped in with 12 goals and two assists in all competitions this season, including the winning strike in injury time against Girona in La Liga a few weeks ago.
The report also adds that Atletico could be willing to part ways with Morata for a fee between €15 and €20 million, which is completely affordable for Rossoneri.
Letting go of Morata will deplete their attacking options, but Atletico are seemingly prepared for it, having identified a set of names as potential attacking targets.
Enes Unal of Getafe, Real Betis’ Borja Iglesias, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram are some of the names considered by Atletico.
As for Morata, Juventus are also reportedly in the race to bring him back to Turin in the summer.
The 30-year-old was previously linked with a move to Barcelona after Xavi handpicked him as his No.1 target. However, a move failed to materialise, and the Catalans ended up signing Robert Lewandowski last summer.
Milan have also drawn up a short list of names to reinforce their attack, which includes Randal Kolo Muani (Eintracht Frankfurt), Noah Okafor (RB Salzburg) and Mateo Retegui (Boca Juniors).
