In his first press conference as captain of the Welsh national team today, Aaron Ramsey was notably asked about Nice owner Jim Ratcliffe’s bid to take over Manchester United. The CEO of chemicals group INEOS also owns Swiss side Lausanne as well as Nice, where Ramsey has been playing since a free transfer this summer, since 2019.
As reported by The Independent, the midfielder described Ratcliffe as “very passionate and very invested” in his ownership of Les Aiglons, adding that he “wants to take Nice all the way to the top”.
The Welshman, who started last week as Didier Digard’s men saw off Sheriff Tiraspol to advance to the Conference League quarter-finals, went on to describe Nice as a “great project to be a part of” and a “family-oriented club”.
Ratcliffe was in Manchester during the week, along with an INEOS delegation, for talks regarding a potential acquisition, with discussions being described as “productive“. Also in the running to take over the Red Devils is a project fronted by Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, the chairman of the Qatar Islamic Bank, leading a debt-free bid to purchase Manchester United through his private Nine Two foundation.
