Speaking about a possible contract extension for 17-year-old forward Youssoufa Moukoko, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke discussed the German’s current situation as he enters the final year of his contract.
“If a player show their willingness to extend a year before the end of the contract, then you still have the alternative of selling the player,” Watzke told Ruhr Nachrichten. When discussing about an extension for Moukoko, he added: “There’s a decent chance of that. But Youssoufa will have to make the final decision.”
Moukoko struggled with injuries during the 2021/22 season and struggled under Marco Rose. Prior to the appointment of Edin Terzić, there was a tendency that Moukoko would sign a contract extension and then spend the 22/23 season on loan.
However, Terzić awarded Moukoko with his Bundesliga debut and that could work in favour of Moukoko signing an extension.
If an agreement isn’t reached, then BVB could be forced to sell or risk losing their talent on a free transfer in 2023.
