A fresh insight into the race for the next Ballon d’Or has this week been forthcoming online.
The info comes courtesy of Relevo, and points towards a new frontrunner as having emerged, from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Real, of course, are fresh off booking their spot in yet another European finale on Wednesday night.
A number of Los Blancos’ star performers shone bright en route to a 2-1 Champions League downing of Bayern Munich, with Joselu having proven himself the surprise hero courtesy of a match-winning brace.
None, though, stood out at the Santiago Bernabéu more than wide-man Vinícius Jr.
The Brazilian international was in unstoppable form down the left flank, giving Joshua Kimmich nightmares, and acting as the true driving force behind Real Madrid’s eventual comeback triumph.
And as much, it would appear, has positioned Vinícius at the very front of the queue for the next Ballon d’Or trophy.
That’s according to Relevo, who point towards the 23-year-old as having leapfrogged teammate Jude Bellingham in the race to be crowned world football’s best player:
‘Vinicius is now the number one candidate to win the Ballon d’Or. There is no doubt,’ it is confirmed.
