Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has explained he had no choice but to take Harry Kane, Leroy Sané and Jamal Musiala off against Real Madrid.
After Serge Gnabry was forced off in the first half of Bayern Munich’s 2-1 semi-final defeat by Real Madrid with a muscle problem, Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane all had to come off with injuries too, head coach Thomas Tuchel revealed after the game.
Tuchel took off Sane, Kane and Musiala towards the end of the game and, as he explained afterwards, it wasn’t for tactical reasons.
“They couldn’t carry on. They all signalled that they needed to come off,” the Bayern coach said.
Both Musiala and Sané have been struggling with injury problems of late and have been rested in recent Bundesliga matches. Kane, apparently, had problems with his back.
“He played with back pain and he couldn’t keep going, his back froze up,” said Tuchel.
