A head-turning statistic surrounding the significance of the goal netted by Real Madrid youngster Arda Güler on Friday night has come to the fore online.
Güler, for his part, is of course fresh something of an outing to remember.
With boss Carlo Ancelotti having opted to heavily rotate his XI ahead of next week’s Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich, the Turkish international was afforded his first-ever start in La Liga.
As much came as Los Blancos made the trip to the Basque Country, for a meeting with Real Sociedad.
And, safe to say, Güler went on to grasp the opportunity afforded to him with both hands.
Getting on the end of Dani Carvajal’s delivery across the face of goal just inside the half-hour mark, the summer arrival in Madrid slotted home an unerring finish, for what ultimately proved to be the only goal of the game.
And yet, as alluded to above, Güler’s strike did not only prove significant in guiding his side another step closer to the La Liga title.
In addition, it saw the midfield prodigy secure for himself a piece of history.
As revealed by statisticians Opta, Güler is now the 2nd youngest player to score on their first La Liga start for Real Madrid in the 21st century (19 years, 61 days).
The only Blancos star to have managed as much at a younger age comes in the form of teammate Rodrygo, with another member of Ancelotti’s ranks, in Jude Bellingham, rounding out the podium:
