David Raum set to move to RB Leipzig from Hoffenheim for €35 million

According to Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig are closing in on a deal for Hoffenheim left-wing-back David Raum. The German international will cost Die Roten Bullen €30-35 million.

Despite rumours linking Raum with a move to Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig have moved ahead and look set to close the deal.

Bayern Munich were reportedly looking at the player, but the presence of Alphonso Davies meant any transfer would always be difficult for Die Rekordmeister.

Raum was one of the best Bundesliga players of the 2021-22 season. He created 83 chances in the Bundesliga last term, with only Filip Kostic and Thomas Muller creating more.

He scored three goals and created 19 big chances for Hoffenheim – only Thomas Muller (22) was ahead of him in the German top-flight. The 24-year-old wing-back is one of the best transfer targets available in Europe.

At Leipzig, Raum will compete with former Manchester City left-back Angelino for a place in Domenico Tedesco’s free-flowing side.

When the Spanish left-back missed some crucial games for the Red Bull club, especially in the latter part of the campaign, right-back Benjamin Henrichs filled in.

The arrival of Raum will raise the competitiveness of the DFB-Pokal champions. The former Greuther Furth man is a creative spark that can electrify any team. He is a fantastic coup for Leipzig, who will be challenging on multiple fronts and need greater squad depth.

After the German-Italian Tedesco took over the club from Jesse Marsch, he spurred the club from mid-table mediocrity to a top-four finish, securing a spot in the Champions League group stage. The club also defeated Freiburg on penalties to lift the domestic cup.

A move for Raum strengthens the club with quality ahead of the 2022/23 season.
