La Liga outfit Atlético Madrid have on Tuesday provided an update on the wellbeing of star frontman Álvaro Morata.
Morata, for his part, missed out at the weekend, as Atlético fell to a concerning 2-0 defeat at the hands of Alavés.
At the time, his absence was attributed to a bout of unspecified illness.
With the former Juventus and Chelsea man still yet to return to training alongside the rest of Diego Simeone’s squad, though, on Tuesday, a more detailed insight into the situation has been provided.
As revealed by Atlético, and cited by Mundo Deportivo, Morata is currently suffering with trigeminal neuralgia.
The condition is one which causes often severe pain in the face, stemming from the sensitive trigeminal nerve.
It can make any daily task a difficult one, meaning Morata’s ongoing absence from footballing activities should come as little surprise.
Atlético have yet to pencil in a specific return date, but the hope is that the 31-year-old will recover in time to face Athletic Club this weekend.
Get well soon, Álvaro!
