Edu ‘still looking’ for ‘another forward’ at the Emirates

Arsenal are still looking to sign another forward this summer despite securing the services of Gabriel Jesus, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Mikel Arteta is bolstering his side ahead of the return of European football next season and adding further reinforcements to his frontline is still on the agenda.

What is the latest on Arsenal’s transfer hunt?

The Gunners have already secured the services of four key players in the form of Jesus, Matt Turner, Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos with a £32 million deal for Oleksandr Zinchenko set to be announced imminently too.

But having lost out on a move for Raphinha, who opted to join Barcelona this summer, it is likely that Arteta and Edu will be looking to add another forward to the squad this season.

Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah remain the only specialist strikers at the club while Bukayo Saka is currently lacking support on the right wing.

Latest reports from football.london indicate that the Gunners remain interested in PSV winger Cody Gakpo moving forward, with Arteta apparently a big fan of the player.

What has Brown said about the Gunners’ next move?

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “They were looking for another forward. I think they are still looking for another forward but I don’t think it’s going to be one that will cost a huge amount of money because Arsenal have done quite a lot of business in this window and I don’t think without Champions League football, they can just keep spending.

They also know there might be some quite big name options available next summer when they could be offering Champions League football. So I think Arsenal fans shouldn’t be expecting a particularly big name to come in after the Zinchenko deal is done.”

What will Arsenal’s next move be?

It is likely that Arsenal will be pretty happy with the work they have done in the transfer market so far this summer.

In Jesus and Zinchenko particularly they have two players who will instantly impact the first-team and make them stronger, while Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos represent exciting prospects for the coming years.

But it would be a surprise if we did not see at least one more name through the door at the Emirates before the deadline passes.

As Brown mentions, Arteta wants to add another forward to his squad but there is also a desire to sign a central midfielder too with Youri Tielemans frequently touted as a potential option.

With the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Lucas Torreira and Nicolas Pepe all out of favour, it may be a case of exits being sorted before new arrivals, however.
