West Ham United are ‘still in conversation’ with LOSC Lille over a potential deal for Amadou Onana, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Hammers have already seen two bids rejected for the highly-rated 20-year-old but have not given up hope of adding him to their midfield ahead of the new campaign getting underway.
What is the latest news involving Onana?
Sheth himself has been at the forefront of West Ham’s pursuit of Onana and broke the news that they had launched an opening offer of €23 million (£19.5m) for him.
Once it became clear that that fee didn’t meet Lille’s valuation, the east London outfit then proposed a figure of €30m (£25.5m), which was also rebuffed by the former Ligue 1 champions.
Sheth stated that West Ham then began ‘looking at other options’ after becoming frustrated in their attempts to prise the Belgium international away from the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

However, Sky Sports then claimed that the capital club have launched a third assault for Onana, this time putting an offer of £32.3m (€38m) plus add-ons on the negotiating table.
It’s believed that Lille are now ‘seriously considering’ the proposal for a player who arrived from Hamburger SV for just €7m (£5.9m) a year ago.
What has Sheth said about Onana?
Sheth has informed GiveMeSport that West Ham have still not ‘heard back’ from Lille regarding their latest bid.
In an interview with GMS, he said: “That one is still in conversation, as it were. They had two bids rejected.
“The latest one was around £25 million, but West Ham actually went in with the third bid, and that was around €38 million plus add-ons. Now, they still have not heard back from Lille to see whether that bid has been accepted or rejected.”
Do West Ham need Onana?
West Ham have already reinforced their engine room via the acquisition of Flynn Downes from Swansea City, yet David Moyes is unlikely to be satisfied with one additional option.
That’s because Mark Noble has retired, former loanee Alex Kral has returned to his parent club and there is continued speculation over the future of Tomas Soucek.
Soucek has two years remaining on his contract and is yet to agree terms on a new deal despite being in talks for several months, leading to the likes of Aston Villa being linked with a potential move.
Therefore, Onana would surely be a welcome addition at West Ham as Moyes looks to lead his side to a third consecutive top-seven finish.
