Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps was among a French delegation to meet with other international managers and UEFA today in Dusseldorf, in order to finalise the number of players to be picked for squads going to Euro 2024, reports L’Équipe.
Several European nations are said to be in favour of 26 man squads, as was the case for the Qatar World Cup in 2022, but it is said that Deschamps is one of those with reservations, citing possible frustration for the players that don’t play or who are cut from squads before a tournament begins. UEFA is expected to make a decision in the coming days.
The long time French coach is also lobbying for all 26 players to be included on the teamsheet, ensuring healthy rotation of players throughout a condensed, gruelling summer month.
The conference also allowed managers to discuss the latest (and unpopular) UEFA rule, consisting of a reduction to the duration of training sessions the day before a game to 45 minutes, leaving several, including Deschamps, unhappy about the lack of preparation time.
