Villarreal midfielder Étienne Capoue has extended his contract with the club until the end of the 2023/24 season, the La Liga club have confirmed.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Watford midfielder’s contract was set to expire in 2023, but a series of great performances for The Yellow Submarine last season has convinced club president Fernando Roig to extend his deal by one more year.
Capoue was a vital member of the Villarreal side that reached the Champions League semi-finals last season, having played in all 12 fixtures that the team played in the competition.
The deal suggests that the Frenchman is continuing to be a part of Unai Emery’s plans, as the club hopes to improve upon their 7th-place finish last season.
The club also appears to have a verbal agreement with former Manchester United player Edinson Cavani, as was communicated yesterday.
