Crystal Palace are close to reaching an agreement with Bayern Munich for the transfer of US international defender Chris Richards (22), according to Florian Plettenberg. The Bundesliga side will receive a reported fee around €15m-€20m, of which 35% will go to FC Dallas.
It was reported on Monday evening that Richards had reached an agreement in principle with Crystal Palace, with just the two clubs needing to find an agreement regarding the transfer fee.
Fellow Bundesliga side Hoffenheim had shown an interest in re-signing Richards, who’s had two loan spells at the Sinsheim club. It was also suggested the Bayern Munich may use the American in a makeweight as part of a deal to sign Germany international David Raum (24).
Following the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt, Richards would have found playing time in central-defence difficult to find. Since the player’s move in January 2019, Richards has played just 282 minutes for Bayern Munich, but featured predominantly for Bayern II (3,308 minutes) before joining Hoffenheim on loan.
Per Plettenberg’s original report, Richards to Palace is in its final stages.
